Honorio Rubio, Lias Finas 2018

The Rubio family have been making wine in the Rioja Alta for well-over a century, where the original clay cellar dug by Juan Rubio Hernando to mature his wines in stone vats is still in use today. Lias Finas 2018 is made from 100% Viura, with the grapes harvested and then aged in oak on their fine lees (their "lias finas") for 16 months prior to release. Slightly oxidative on the nose, it has aromas of almond, butter, oak and pear which leads to a rich palate with further oaky flavours balanced by a nice citrussy acidity. A great wine to pair with cheeses or Asian cuisine.
